Day 19 of our attempt at Everest Base Camp trek. Today was our day to start making our way back down the mountain. We are quite ready as some of the altitude sickness symptoms such as lack of appetite have become quite annoying. The plan was to hike down 11km losing approximately 1000 metres of altitude by the end of the day. We would hike down from Gorak Shep to Pheriche. We started off quite early and made our way along the lateral moraine. This was the toughest part of the day. When we finally popped out the other side things got a whole lot smoother and we could make real progress downhill. We had the most amazing weather again and it took us about 6 hours to hike down to the town we would be spending the night. We got to visit a Yak farm on the way. They are so cool and fluffy! Here there is no wood for burning so the people collect all their excrement to dry and then burn in the fire. It burns really well! We saw some little calves on our way down as well before arriving at Pheriche at a beautiful little tea house. Here I paid to have my first shower in a week, which was a bit chilly but still worth it all the same. Our altitude symptoms have already started to subside and we’re feeling more comfortable. A great day on our way downhill! #ebc2026 #nepal #yak
