Day 13 of our attempt to trek to Everest Base Camp. Today was our longest hike yet from Namche to Tangboche. It started off pretty gentle with a nice stroll along the side of the hillside and then we started to go down. We had to go quite far down before starting to make our 600 metre ascent again. The road was quite nice though a little dusty. We were told to dress warmly but by 9 the sun was already really hot. So far we have had amazing weather. Last week the temperatures were in the minus and it was snowing. A lot of other people were hiking alongside us today the trails were quite full. We were treated to an almost clear view of Everest as we were hiking in the morning. The hike was mostly downhill until about lunchtime where we stopped at a small restaurant to eat. At this point we had completed 7km of the 10 but the next 3km were all in the name of height gain. We started making the slow grind upwards the road meandering back and forth all the way up. We stopped regularly to catch our breath. It felt like we were making very little process but eventually we finally arrived at the small town of Tangboche (3868 metres). It took us over 6 hours in total to travel 9.54km not including our lunch break. We arrived about 14:30 and after a quick shower (the hot water is solar so is only hot when the sun is shining) we walked over the green to visit the monastery. We had arrived at evening prayer time and were allowed to observe as the monks chanted their mantras. It was really interesting and very special. The monastery was so beautiful inside. The evening started to turn cold so we headed back to the hotel for an early supper. Tomorrow we need to do a double up day to make up for the day we lost. I feel pretty good today but our sats were both down. Mum is down to 80% and I’m down to 87%. This is within range for the location and honestly I wouldn’t have known that it was down. Time for bed.
