Day 11 Everest Basecamp Trek Monjo to Namche

Day 11 of our Everest Base Camp trek. Today was a big one, hiking up to the famous Namche from Monjo. Only 5.3km in distance but over 600 metres of elevation made up of what feels like hundreds of meandering stairs that appear to never end. We set of at about 7:30 and arrived first at the entrance of the national park. After getting our permits we then started descending into the valley again. The trek started fairly easy as we hiked along the river side until it was time to hike up to the famous Hilary bridge. Here we started ascending via the many steps to get to the bridge platform. A landslide had wiped out part of the track so we had to navigate across some dodgy sandy terrain at height. Then we kept ascending until we finally reached the bridge. This didn’t feel so bad as there was an obvious goal in sight. We have to wait for a bovine train to cross before it was our turn to go. The Hilary bridge is approximately 140 metres long and 125 metres above the valley floor. It’s a beautiful but nail biting walk for me at least as the bridge sways and bounces a little and the ground seems so so far!Amazing! Then we got to the other side and it was time to start climbing again. At first it was steps which went on and on forever. We were constantly passed by locals carrying huge loads including one guy carry a set of solar panels on his back. Finally when you think it’s almost done you get onto a forest trail at a constant incline. At no point can you see your end goal and every time you turn a corner there seems to be more trail. Finally we turn the last corner and the town of Namche. It’s amazing to see this place where people have managed to set up home embedded in the mountain side. It’s so beautiful and I’ll do a separate post about the place as I can’t share anymore photos on this post. Overall it took us 5 hours and we made it to our tea house at about 12:30. We didn’t do much for the rest of the day. Tomorrow is a rest day which means we go for a 5 km hike just for acclimatization purposes 😂. We have now broke 3000 metres and will spend the next two nights at 3440 metres. Will post more later. See ya! #nepaltrekking
