Day 10 – Phakding to Monjo Everest Basecamp Camp Trek

Day 10 of our EBC trek. We slept in a little today after a long week and mum not feeling so well last night. I woke up feeling good but after our altitude sickness medication I had the weirdest sensation in my hands. It felt like my blood was fizzing or boiling in my fingertips and it was quite unpleasant for about 20 minutes. After that though all seemed normal. Today we hiked from Phakding to a town called Monjo. Our guide shortened the route for us after mums illness last night. She woke up feeling better so we set off about 8:30. We had about 5.1km to hike with several sets of stairs. It was a beautiful view and we crossed the river several times which was raging through the valley below. The steps are very uneven, dug out whilst also being covered in animal dung and sometimes very steep so some of them are quite a challenge to navigate safely. The hike went well and we passed lots of mule and oxen trains going up and down. Mum still has some trouble with the stairs so Sonam carried her bag for her and she was able to make easier progress. Unfortunately mum had some stomach issues along the way but was able to continue with a few stops. We completed the hike in just over 3 hours and made it into Monjo just in time for lunch. Here we have the afternoon to rest a little and a hot shower which is such a treat. We had a small walk around the town before resting before dinner. At dinner Sonam tested our sats again. I’m down to 93% but mum has made a good recovery and is back up to 94%. We ascended 200m today from 2616 metres to 2819 metres. Tomorrow we hike to Namche which will be harder than today with more ascent but we will have a rest day there. Wish us luck! #nepal #trekking #hiking #ebc
