So at the request of Aunty Sue here is Day 1 of us on our way to do the Everest Base Camp hike (hopefully). We had a bit of surprise yesterday to find our flight had been brought forward about 4 hours. So we gathered up our gear, arranged a hotel, said our goodbyes then headed out to the airport for check in at 00:30. Dad set us up with some stinky egg sandwiches 🥪 (delicious) and we were off. It wasn’t looking good for takeoff as it was blowing a hoolie and pouring with rain by the time we got going. Captain said we had almost been cancelled. Great 7 hour flight to Ascension Island. Quick turn around on the ground before the next leg another good 8 hour flight to the UK. Next tricky part was getting to Oxford. I had planned to use the public bus as we were supposed to land in the early morning but instead we landed closer to 2am. Unfortunately no bus down to Oxford but we managed to find a taxi outside. Ended up arriving at Oxford bus station about 0400 just in time for the first tube bus to London Victoria. About a 2 hour run to London arriving at about 6 am. Our next hurdle was I had been unable to confirm with the hotel about early checkin (they told us just to turn up and try our luck) so we hung out in a cafe for an hour until daylight before attempting to find the hotel. Hailed a London cab to the hotel. Unfortunately the room wasn’t ready but we could enter if we were happy to share a bed and only a metre square of floor space. We took it because by this time we couldn’t care less. Only one of us could stand on the floor at a time whilst the other climbed on the bed and we had to climb over our bags to get to the bathroom. Thankfully they came soon after and told us that actually the room was ready. So we packed up again and checked into our actual room. Due to budget constraints it’s a bunk bed room with no window and a see through toilet door but overall it’s not so bad and at least we can both stand on the floor at the same time. Sadly mother has already soiled the room by exploding a cadburys flake all over the floor and her bed. That’s a first strike right there! Anyway all settled by 8am so time for a nap before going shopping later! Toodle pip!
