Welcome to my blog. This is my first ever step into the world of blogging so i will keep this first one short and sweet. My name is Tiphanie, I am 35 years old and i was born in the Falkland Islands. A small archipelago in the South Atlantic with a population of 3000.
I was raised out in the farm lands often referred to the “camp” with only my parents and my younger brother. We later moved to a small group of islands where we lived completely cut off from the main population for several months of the year. I will go into more detail about this in a later blog.
At the age of 16 i travelled by military flight to England to continue my education completing A levels, graduate and post graduate studies to become a marine biologist. I then returned to the Falklands to become a scientific observer, working 200 days per year onboard spanish squid trawlers bouncing from ship to ship. This was my first full time sea position and it set the tone for the rest of my career. I spent 3 years working in this industry before returning to land based work for the Falkland Islands government.
There i worked some amazing projects before moving to an experimental sustainable aquaculture project. During my career i always worked in the tourism industry on the side through hiking and 4×4 tours. In 2018 I was offered the amazing opportunity to work as an expedition guide on an expedition vessel to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica. I became hooked on the work and made it my mission to break into the industry as a career. I have been working hard at it since and through my work I have been lucky enough to visit some of the remotest places in world. My purpose for this blog is to get some more information about the Falklands out there and to record some of the wonderful experiences i am having in this new career. Hopefully someone else out there finds this interesting too. Thats all for now! Write again soon.
